Precautionary Efforts in Dealing with MRSA Bacteria
Recently there have been news reports regarding cases of
antibiotic resistant bacteria called MRSA being found in schools. To date we have not had any confirmed cases in our schools, but here are some of our precautionary efforts:
- Cleaners
are cleaning commonly used items such as doorknobs, light switches,
drinking fountains, weight room equipment, etc. with a special
disinfectant
- Cleaners
are using additional special disinfectants to clean all nurse’s rooms,
bathrooms, and locker room areas.
- Antiseptic
wipes will be provided to computer
labs for keyboards, offices with multiple
use phones, Physical Education classes, etc.
- Coaches
and PE teachers are reviewing care of equipment and basic hygiene with athletes
and students who use the locker rooms.
- Public
Service announcements will be broadcast to students on TV on a weekly basis
with reminders about basic hygiene for both MRSA and the flu season.
Please see the document
from the Massachusetts Public Health
Department called Questions and Answers About
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA). If you have further
questions please contact the School Nurse.
