Body Mass Index : Results of the height and weight screenings with calculated BMI (Body Mass Index) were sent out this week on all 10th grade students in accordance with the CDC guidelines. Remember, this is only a screening, many factors affect the BMI, including increased muscle mass. Please discuss any results with your child's doctor.

Sports Physicals: Dr. Smith will be here the last week of school for Fall sport physicals. Please call the nurse for an appointment ASAP. He will not be coming to the school in August. All students must have a current physical (within 13 months of the date of try outs) on file with the school nurse in order to participate.

Reminder: Seasonal allergies have begun. Please be aware that the health office does not have any allergy or decongestant medication to provide to students. Students are not allowed to carry any medication with them to school. Please give your child any necessary over-the counter medication before school. If you have any questions or your child needs some medication during the school day, please call me.

STAPH/MRSA INFECTION

Formerly an infection most often found in hospitals, MRSA is now showing up in schools, especially amongst sports teams due to their close contact. MRSA is a type of "staph" bacteria that is resistant to many antibiotics. It usually presents as a skin infection with or without fever. Symptoms can include redness, warmth, swelling, tenderness and pus at the site. MRSA is primarily spread through contact with the bacteria, either by direct person-to-person contact or indirectly through shared equipment, personal articles/objects or contaminated surfaces. Most staph infections are minor and may be easily treated.
