                                                  Introduction

 

             Your school is hosting a traveling art exhibit of Massachusetts artists who have worked and/or studied in

             France and were influenced by French Impressionists .  The exhibition will show works of several artists

             such as Frank Weston Benson, Childe Hassam, Willard Leroy Metcalf.   The French Club has volunteered

             to create an informative brochure which will be handed out  to the exhibit visitors.

 

 

 

                                                        Task

 

 

 

             As member of the French club it is  your job  to create a brochure which will  prepare the visitors for the

             exhibition.  You will use the links provided and choose four Massachusetts Impressionists who have   

             worked and/or studied in France.  For each of the four artists, you will give a brief biography which

             touches on their life in Massachusetts as well as in France.  You will also provide two examples of

Create a title page and back page for your pamphlet

 Title page:

  Should have title, an introduction which should

  include what type of exhibit it is, where it is, what the

  opening hours are.

Back page:

   Should have citation for pictures, your name, name

    of school, class and your email

·       Choose four Massachusetts Impressionists

·       Choose two pieces of art for each artist

·       Write a biography for each of the four Impressionists

            In your biography include the following information: 

a.     Year and place of birth and death.

b.     Where did the artist live most of his/her life?

c.     Where did the artist study in the USA?

d.     Where did the artist study in France?

e.     If he/ she did not study in France, where did he/she live in France?

                                 f.   Did he/she work with a French artist? What was that artist’s name?

                                      What if any influence did the French artist have on the work of the  

                                       artist you are  reporting about?

g.     What type of painting is the artist known for i.e. landscapes, portraits etc.?

             Your brochure will be evaluated on its content, accuracy of information, as well

                  as its visual appeal.  Each artist’s biography should be enhanced with pictures of

                  his/her work.  Please check the rubric for detailed information of the evaluation

                   The majority of the work on your brochure will be accomplished during class time

                   in the computer room.  If you need more time it is your responsibility to finish your

                   brochure on your own time.  The final product is due the day after the last day in the

                   computer lab.  Your final product will be a visually, well organized brochure.  It will

                   include biographies of four Massachusetts Impressionists, who either studied or

                  worked in France.  For each of the artist you will give two examples of their art.

                  Please respond to the following questions on a separate piece of paper which you’ll

                  hand in with your brochure:

1. Why were so many New England artists attracted to Impressionism?

2.  Did the varied landscape of this region influence these artists?
