"The unexamined life is not worth living." SocratesArchetypes and Motifs in Literature and Cinema |
![]() |
Using recurring motifs and psychological archetypes as
a focus for exploring literature and cinema, this course attempts to teach
the student to recognize and identify patterns of ideas used by writers
and artists over the centuries. We will begin with an examination of classical
mythology and explore works taught in other classes at Masconomet as well
as novels, plays, poems, and movies assigned for this class. We will see
how basic concepts such as good, evil, innocence, experience, heroism,
independence and others have been treated over the centuries and how these
concepts apply in the students' own lives.
We will have fun exploring the big and great ideas in literature
and the other arts.
