Every effort should be made to have your child take medication at home to prevent loss of class time. However, there are several different types of medications that may need to be administered during the school day.  The Department of Public Health states that no child is allowed to carry medications of any kind (including over-the-counter) at school.  The only exceptions are prescribed asthma inhalers, pancreatic enzymes, Insulin, and epinephrine auto-injectors.

A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury, or TBI, caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head that can change the way your brain normally works. Concussions can also occur from a blow to the body that causes the head to move rapidly back and forth. Children and teens are among those at greatest risk for concussion. Even what appears to be a mild bump or blow to the head can cause concussion symptoms.  Both physical and cognitive rest is required to give the brain a chance to heal.

If your child has a food allergy requiring an epinephrine auto-injector (Epi-Pen,  Auvi-Q) you must complete the Severe Allergy Careplan in cooperation with your physician and return it to the nurse's office. Please be sure your child has an unexpired auto-injector available to him or her at all times. Students should carry their auto-injector on their person during the school day, on field trips, extracurricular events and on the bus.  Our severe allergy protocol is reviewed with students who carry an auto-injector on an annual basis.
