13% of all public-school students have a learning disability, and 90% of those with a Specific Learning Disability have reading as their primary disability

For these students, words are ConFusiNg*%$!

Whether it’s hearing, processing, understanding, or producing language – both oral and written language are a challenge

One of the best ways to teach students is to establish a consistent, active reading routine.

Do these 5 things as you read to Improve Your Reading Comprehension

(Print and laminate as a Bookmark for all your academic studies)
  1. Write brief summaries in the margins in your own words (use sticky notes if you can’t write on the page)
  2. Underline key words and phrases
  3. “?” next to anything that is confusing – try to answer this as you read or ask in class the next day
  4. Note examples (“i.e.” in margin next to the information)
  5. Turn your notes into possible test questions
