STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: STUDENT COUNCIL PRESIDENT SARA TOCCI
By Christina Tsetsakoy
Covid has ruined many things for the student body, especially many school activities run by the Student Council. But the spirits and livelihood of the students have not been lost, and that’s in large part because of Student Council President junior Sara Tocci.
Tocci’s job as president mainly consists of making agendas for the Executive Board and general student council meetings, as well as communicating with other members of the student council for planning school events.
Tocci said she chose to run for President to better the school community.
“I had a lot of fun taking part in Student Council as an underclassman and felt like I could benefit the council by taking on a larger responsibility,” she said.
With the departures of the 2022 graduates, Sara became the official President of the Student Council and the head of its Executive Board. Tocci loves working with a smaller group of students.
“So far it's been going really well; I've been fortunate to have such great people on the Executive Board.”
In her time as president-elect, Tocci has helped organize and bring back events such as the Pep Rally, which Tocci said was one of her favorite events to plan.
“It was such a whirlwind to plan and execute and working on that with the rest of the Exec Board early on in the year was a bonding moment for us all,” she said.
One of the student council’s main priorities is to represent the student body of Masconment and to hear the student’s voices, which Tocci hopes to prioritize for the upcoming year.
Tocci said, “The biggest thing I want to focus on next year is student involvement. I want the entire student body to know what's going on in the Student Council and be able to make their voices heard if they have any ideas or grievances.”
Another way that Tocci plans to incorporate student voices into the decisions of the student council is by gathering more feedback from all students.
“I'd like to institute a suggestion box for non-Student Council students who have ideas they'd like to share but are too nervous or don't know how to communicate them.”
Tocci wants to build a sense of unity within the Masconomet community, which is something she hopes will proceed her in student council years to come.
”Empowering every part of the student body and encouraging everyone to take a vested interest in the community is something I'm really hoping to leave for Student Councils to come,” she said.
Due to Covid and various other bumps in the road, a lot of events have been canceled but it seems that President Tocci has big plans for the future of our community and the different events the school holds.
Tocci said she’d also like to reinstitute a Homecoming Dance, which has been something that has been up in the air for some time now.
Tocci has many goals to accomplish by the end of this school year that lead into the entirety of the next school year. The student body hopes to see the effects of all these new things that could be the legacy of President Tocci. A legacy filled with a desire for unity and making the voices of all of the students heard to make Masco the best it can be.
