A group of Masconomet and Pentucket Students participated in a discussion on gun violence, hosted by Rep. Lenny Mirra (R-West Newbury). Masco Senior Molly Luce said that “all perspectives were represented, and it proved to be an excellent leaning experience, not only in information, but also how to conduct oneself civilly.”
The meeting was held at UMass Lowell’s Innovation Hub. State Rep. Andy Vargas (D-Haverhill), Tim Wallace of Gun Owners Action League, and local members of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sens in America, spoke of support for different pieces of legislation.
Masco Senior Fridahan Basame was quoted in the Eagle Tribune article “New Laws, Mental Illness Discussed in Gun Forum” asking Rep. Mirra about a bill that allows citizens to petition courts to suspend gun licensure for a family member who is deemed dangerous to themselves or others.
