The Masconomet Health Services Department strives to promote optimal wellness in all students in order to advance their sense of well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement. To this end, the nurses provide assessment and treatment for both acute and chronic illnesses and injuries during the the school day, intervening with actual and potential health issues. They promote health and safety; provide case management services and strive to develop and maintain a strong link between all parent, school and community resources to increase self management and self-advocacy skills.
The Masco Nurses:
High School Nurse, Karen Trevenen RN, BSN, NCSN, MEd started in school nursing in 1999 and has held a variety of different positions within the Masconomet School District. Her areas of interest include: policy making, substance use, mental health issues and helping students be the best they can be.
High School Nurse, Kathy Hostetter RN, BSN has been part of Masconomet's Health Services Department for nearly 20 years and has worked with both high school and middle school students. Kathy likes to work one on one with the students, engaging and teaching them on a variety of health topics.
High School Assistant Nurse, Nicole Quadros, RN, BSN brings her knowledge of emergency room nursing and organizational skills to assist the school nurses in taking care of the students and other health office tasks.
Middle School Nurse, Gwen Lemire EMT, RN, BSN, NCSN, MEd has been a school nurse for over 20 years. She started her career here as the first Middle School Nurse in 1998. She relies heavily on her strong assessment skills and sense of humor in order to care for the "whole child" in this unique age group. Gwen's particular interests lie in emergency medicine and mental health.
Middle School Assistant Nurse, Kim Gaffey RN, BSN, assists the middle school nurse in taking care of students and other health office tasks. Kim particularly enjoys the daily interaction with students, helping them incorporate important health and wellness skills into their daily lives.
