    The Whole Child Tenets

  • Illness: Illness may be acute or chronic. Please notify the nurse if your child has a fever greater than 100.4. Your child should stay home until they are fever free for 24 hours without any fever reducing medication (such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen). For a significant, acute illness (such as the flu, pneumonia, kidney infection) for which your child is out of school for longer than 3 days, please notify the nurse. This will help the nurse plan to meet your child's needs as he/she returns to school.  This also helps the nurse address trends and health issues within the school environment.

Injury:  If your child has an injury that results in decreased mobility or movement, please notify the nurse. The nurse will make the necessary accommodations (ie use of the elevator, evacuation plan, ensure note-taking capability, extra set of books, etc). If your child has had a concussion, a specific plan of care will be developed in order for your child to return to academics and athletics, so please notifiy the nurse as soon as possible of this condition. Extended absences: Require a note from your child's health care provider. If your child is going to be out for 3 or more days and you would like to receive make up work/homework, his/her guidance counselor should be notified as well.

Medical Excuse for Physical Education: A parent note must be given to the physical education teacher or nurse if your child is unable to participate in PE. If more than five gym classes will be missed a physician's note is required. For excuses longer than 4 weeks, it may be necessary for your child to be placed in a study.
